Harm Reduction Specialist
Joshua Hernandez (he/him) serves as a Peer Harm Reduction Specialist, bringing over four years of experience supporting communities across Staten Island. With a strong focus on harm reduction, Joshua conducts community trainings on the use of Narcan and distributes educational materials connecting individuals to vital local resources. He plays a key role in reducing overdose risks by distributing fentanyl and xylazine test strips in areas with high rates of substance use, particularly on the North Shore of Staten Island.
Joshua’s deep understanding of the community, shaped by lived experience and years of direct outreach, informs his compassionate and practical approach to public health. He is passionate about empowering others through education and resources, and committed to minimizing the harms of substance use while advocating for the well-being of those most affected.
